On Sunday, January 31st the Bayview Mall in Belleville hosted the 15th Annual "Alzheimer Society Manulife Walk for Memories". The amount of teams who participated in the Walk double from last years and in total $38,000 was raised from all who took part.
"Rock for Relief 2" was held at the Empire Theatre in Downtown Belleville and was put together to raise funds for the People of Haiti who have been recently affected by devastating Earthquakes. Many local artists, celebrities and fundraisers were out to support the Event.

2009 was another successful year for the United Way of Quinte! They raised an amazing 1.615 million dollars during their fall fundraising campaign. Recently, they gathered at the Empire Theatre in Belleville to hand out some awards and reveal the big number! December 15th was an unforgettable day in the Quinte Region, as the Olympic Torch made its way from Kingston to Peterborough. The largest celebration was in Picton where more than 5,000 people gathered for a stage ceremony involving dancers, acrobats and the culture of Prince Edward County. Members of the Belleville Police Service and Operation Red Nose visited the 95.5 studios recently for a special demonstration. Our very own Mark Philbin and Ingrid Moore had regular drinks during the morning run to show the effects of alcohol on speech, judgement and coordination. The CP Holiday Train rolled through the Quinte region on November 30th! Enthusiastic crowds heard a performance from the Odds doing some classics and some of their own material. Saturday October 24th the Lung Association held the 3rd Annual Amazing Pace Fundraising Event. Teams of 4 made their way around the City of Belleville finding Clues, doing Physical and Mental Challenges, and doing it all for a good cause.

Reverend Kevin Fast of Cobourg set a new world record at CFB Trenton! He pulled one of the new Globemaster aircraft the required 5 meters, setting the mark for the heaviest aircraft ever pulled by an individual! It weighed in at 416-thousand 299 pounds! Congratulations Kevin!
The United Way of Quinte's fall fundraising campaign is now underway. Special launch events were held at the Quinte Mall's Kindness Court, and the Legion in Trenton over the past week. This year, there is a renewed focus on the community, and a number of new communication initiatives. Our very own Mark Philbin is the Chair for this year's drive! Last year's campaign raised an amazing 1.65 million dollars.
The Belleville Bulls regular season is about to begin, and this year it includes new look! The team's new Rebook Edge jerseys have similar designs but new materials and a number of improvements to make them roomier and more comfortable. Tim Hortons franchise owners in Quinte West are doing their part to help children and families stay fit and healthy! They have donated ten thousand dollars over four years to the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign! More than 300 members in Quinte West have already received support for YMCA programs at the new facility, which opened earlier this year. Like Nu hosted a special car wash this weekend to raise money for the Belleville Rotary Club. Our very own Cole Nayler was there pitching in and helping dust the dirt off a few vehicles! Like Nu's site on North Front Street was busy all day long! they washed 127 vehicles and collected $715 dollars for the good of the community!

Wal-Mart in Trenton hosted this year's Stack the Pack event in support of the United Way of Quinte's Good Backpack program. It provides crutial school supplies to help local children get the proper start to their studies in the fall! The Relay Ride is a Charity Fundraising event to help raise money for Support Our Troops and the Military Police Fund for Blind Children. The event involves people driving across Canada, passing through each Province (called Provincial Legs) with the passing on the official baton, a Military Police Stuffed Bear. This ride goes from St. John's Newfoundland to Comox, British Columbia. After which the MP Bear will make its way back to CFB Trenton. So far they have already raised more than 10-thousand dollars, as they stopped at CFB Trenton on their way to the west! You can find out more at www.mpnmrr.ca

Belleville's Loyalist College Hosted this year's Relay for Life, which was a HUGE success! They raised more than 380-thousand dollars for Cancer research, and had a record 261 survivors on hand for the event! Here are some of our memories of this special evening, and morning!
On Saturday June 20th Carstar Collision Centre on 104 Mineral Road, teamed up with all other Carstar Collision Centres throughout Canada to raise funds for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with the "Soap it Up" National Car Wash Day!. The car wash had to fight the rain as they attempted to get put in the Guiness Book of World Records for most cars washed in an 8 hour period.
Several members of our station were at Roundel Glen at CFB Trenton for the Soldier On Golf Tournament. The event raises funds for ill or injured CF personnel or former personnel. 198 people took part in the festivities, including many celebrities! Here are some of our favourite moments!
June 3rd was Camp Day at Tim Horton's, with money from a number of activities going to children's charities. Staff members from both of our stations were down at the Tim Horton's on Dundas Street West in Belleville to lend a hand. Here are some of the shots from that exciting day!
There was recently a signature moment for National Air force Museum of Canada at CFB Trenton. A formal ceremony was held in early June to officially hand the Halifax Bomber back over to staff members at the museum.
The restoration of the plane was a massive undertaking, with thousands of volunteer hours being donated by the members of the Halifax Aircraft Association. The handover ceremony also marked the official opening of a special display detailing the history, function and restoration of the Halifax.
Congratulations to everyone with the new YMCA of Quinte West! The facility opened to the public for the first time on May 26th at 6 am, and we were there to share in this special day! We are also broadcasting live from the site this Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm!

Deputy Chief of the Belleville Police Service Brian Harder announced this week that he is retiring in the early summer. Brian has served the people of Belleville selflessly for the past 30 years, after being hired on as a constable in 1979. He is also a leading figure in community policing and safety initiatives like the Children's Safety Village, which he helped to found. We all wish Brian a long and happy retirement, and all the best in his future plans!
M&M Meat Shops everywhere held their annual Charity BBQ this past weekend on May 9th. M&M was raising money for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada.
Saturday May 9th came with lots of rain and a great fundraising event at the Quinte Mall. Despite the weather The Lung Associations 5th Annual Pull for Kids was a great success with a good turn out of participants and supporters. They raised close to $27,500, with the team from Warkworth Institution winning for the 2nd straight year!
Local McDonald's restaurants were part of the nationwide McHappy day on May 6th, and many members of our radio family pitched in for this special day! One dollar from each Big Mac Meal went to Ronald McDonald House and the Quinte Children's Foundation. Our very own Mark Philbin, Paul Ferguson, Kathleen Rankine and Kyle Perry each donned aprons and stepped behind the counter at the McDonald's on Dundas Street East.
A record 4610 people signed up for this year's Kiwanis Walleye World 2009! Congratulations to everyone who spent time on the Bay of Quinte, and to everyone with the Kiwanis Club who put on another excellent event. The total prize pool was 190-thousand dollars, and next year it could reach a quarter of a million!

Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies is now the new front man for a different organization. Robertson was invested as the honorary colonel of 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron at CFB Trenton this week in a special ceremony. Robertson received his pilot's licence in 2005, and also has featured the Canadian Military often during his television series Ed's Up!

The "y" launched their strong kids campaign recently, as they try to raise 80-thousand dollars for local families. Campaign chair Chris Malette hosted the kickoff event at the YMCA in Belleville. with 38-THOUSAND DOLLARS ALREADY RAISED BY A NUMBER OF COMPANIES AND ORGANIZATIONS. They had a great start, with over 38,000 dollars already raised by a number of organizations!

Speaker of the Ontario Legislature Steve Peters stopped bye to speak with Mark and Kathleen on the morning show. He talked about the Speaker's role, and about the importance of getting young people active in the world of politics. He carried those same messages to St. Theresa's and Sir John A. Macdonald schools later in the day!
It was an amazing night of NFL action at Heroes in Belleville, as hundreds of people joined the station to watch Pittsburgh win their sixth title against the Arizona Cardinals. Congratulations go out to Louis Leprade of Trenton who won the grand prize in the Leon's Customer Appreciation Contest! Leprade's name was drawn on Saturday, January 3rd at Leon's in Trenton. He won a new 2009 XRT 4x4 side-by-side utility vehicle. Leprade was one of nine weekly winners, each of which received a $250 gift certificate. The Grand Prize was provided through Custom Carts.
Our very own Paul Ferguson had two members of the Belleville Police RIDE team in to demonstrate the effects of alcohol on awareness and response time. Inspector Paul Vandegraaf and Constable Pat Kellar supervised the exercise, which had Paul drinking several beers and then taking readings on the Intoxilyzer over a two-hour period. The entire experience was broadcast live on Cool 100.1 as part of the afternoon drive.

Our very own Paul Ferguson took on Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis, Quinte Broadcasting's Todd Smith, and The Intel's Chris Malette in the first annual United Way of Quinte Iron Man Fitness Challenge. The events included cardio, strength, and a multi-tool race in the pool. At the end, Paul triumphed over the other three, and captured the yellow champion's jersey. Thanks to the Belleville YMCA which hosted the event, and to all four competitors who raised $2500 for the United Way!
It was a perfect Friday for this year's Santa Claus Parade in Belleville. Warm temperatures and a clear night set the backdrop for one of the biggest crowds ever! Besides the guest of honour, the parade also included Grand Marshall Brian Price, who won gold in Beijing for Canada with the men's rowing eight!
The pride of Belleville, olympic gold medal-winner Brian Price recently sat down with Mark and Kathleen during the morning show to discuss his experiences in Beijing with the Men's Rowing Eight. He not only brought the hardware, but he also brought his A-game as he was a contestant in THE PRICE IS RIGHT!
Our very own Paul Ferguson is the honourary chair for this year's Operation Red Nose. Volunteers with the program drive people home in their own cars on designated nights between the hours of 9 pm and 3 am. All rides must start or end in Belleville or Quinte West, but Op Red Nose covers a huge area! It was honoured with the "Silver Antlers" since there were no accidents, injuries or fatalities due to drunk driving for the past three years the program has been in effect. The number for the service is 962-4334.
Close to a thousand people were on hand at the Kindness Court at the Quinte Mall as we gave away the Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes for this year's Wall of Hits contest. Michael McKenzie had the gold CD and won a $25,000 prize package. He chose furniture from Leons. Lynn Jaquith of Frankford had the silver CD, and won a copy of all 200 CD's on the Wall of Hits. Amanda Tadema of Shannonville had the bronze CD and won a $500 shopping spree at the Quinte Mall! Congratulations to everyone who qualified!
Big Brothers and Big Sisters held an Appreciation Celebration to recognize the volunteers who help them make a big difference for children in the Quinte Region. Starboard Communications, which owns and operates Classic Hits 95.5 and Cool 100.1, was honoured with the Sponsorship Award! Starboard has been an active supporter of Big Brothers and Big Sisters for Ribfest and their bowling event, and also helps raise awareness of the important work being done by their organization!

On Saturday May 3rd, our team got together and pulled a Fire Truck to raise funds for the Ontario Lung Association. Great times and we even finished second!
